Black Hills, Custer State Park, and 1880 Train

We invite you to come with us for a trip to the historic Black Hills, Custer State Park, and 1880 Train of Black Hills South Dakota.

The majesty and history of this landscape is awe inspiring, as well as a great place to enjoy the hospitality of the wild west.

Dick and John will lead daily informal devotions and times of reflections.  It will be a great time of fellowship and you will have stories and memories to share with your friends and family.

Day 1 - Monday, Oct. 6

  • Meet at Camp Forest Springs, will leave camp at 8:00 a.m.  Option to stay over Sunday night, see registration form.
  • Travel from Camp Forest Springs Westboro, WI, to the Holiday Inn Express in Brandon, SD.
  • Lunch will be provided.
  • Holiday Inn Express:
    The Inn features modern rooms, cable TV, phones, AC, and non-smoking rooms are available! You may find time to relax in the indoor swimming pool and whirlpool.
  • Dinner at Tailgater’s Restaurant - Brandon, SD
  • A short fellowship time before saying goodnight.

Day 2 - Tuesday, Oct. 7

  • Breakfast Bar - Continental Style
  • Travel to Wall Drug and the Black Hills
  • Lunch on your own at Wall Drug
  • Tour Wall Drug:
    The Wall Drug Store got its start during the Depression years by offering free ice water to thirsty travelers.  From their beginning in 1931 to today, the family-owned and run business continues what their reputation was and is built on — giving friendly service to the public! Browse the shopping area to find a great selection of western items, authentic native South Dakota Jackalopes, exquisite fine art and a unique assortment of souvenirs.
  • Country Inn and Suites, Rapid City, SD will be our place of repose during our time in the Black Hills.
  • Dinner at a local restaurant - included
  • We’ll wrap up the end of this fun day with a short fellowship time before saying goodnight.

Day 3, Wednesday, Oct. 8

  • Breakfast Bar - Continental Style
  • 1880 Train Ride
    The 1880 Train is beyond imagination.  Located near Mt. Rushmore National Monument and Crazy Horse Memorial, the locomotive offers a western experience like no other. Feel the power. Hear the bellow of the engine and the whine of the whistle as it winds its way through the scenic hills between Hill City and Keystone… and back again.
  • Lunch at the Alpine Inn,
    Built in 1886, this historic landmark, with its reputation for fine dining, became the showplace of Hill City. Family owned and operated for over two decades, the Alpine Inn carries on this tradition.  This popular restaurant has been noted in national and international publications for its friendly, homey atmosphere steeped in mellow Old World Charm, and its delicious meals. The luncheon menu boasts both ethnic European as well as contemporary dishes.
  • Dinner at a local restaurant - included
  • Return to Country Inn and Suites with a short fellowship time before saying goodnight.

Day 4, Thursday, Oct. 9

  • Breakfast Bar - Continental Style
  • Needles Highway & Custer State Park Tour
    We will travel this beautiful scenic highway by private vans provided by Golden Circle Tours.  We will experience Needles Highway & Custer State Park ending up at Mt. Rushmore.
  • Mt. Rushmore - lunch will be provided amidst the beauty and grandeur of Mt. Rushmore at Monument Restaurant.
  • Crazy Horse Memorial - on our way back to the motel we will stop at this amazing monument, under construction.
  • Dinner at a local restaurant - on your own
  • Return to Country Inn and Suites with a short fellowship time before saying goodnight.


Day 5, Friday, Oct. 10

  • Breakfast Bar - Continental Style
  • Start the trip back home with scenic stops along the way.
  • Lunch - on your own
  • Dinner at Tailgater’s, Brandon, SD
  • Overnight accommodations at Holiday Inn Express, Brandon, SD

Day 6, Saturday, Oct. 11

  • Breakfast Bar - Continental Style
  • Lunch - on your own
  • Arrive late afternoon to Camp Forest Springs
  • Until next time!
  • Deposit: $100/person fully refundable until August 25th.
  • Full payment due: August 25th.
  • Cancellation: $100 penalty after August 25th.
  • Minimum of 25 people are needed for this trip to happen. Should the event be canceled your deposit will be refunded.
  • Age Minimum: 21 and older.
